Seasons

Orleans Little League Baseball operates two seasons each year.

The Spring Instructional Season (May 1 – June 30 typically) focuses on player development through teaching and a ‘house-league’ schedule. Emphasis is placed on having fun while learning the game. Registration opens in early January each year.

All age divisions, except for Teeball, are separated into 2 tiers to facilitate instructional objectives: Canadian (specific skill development), and National (general skill development).

This is followed by the Summer Competitive Season (July 1 – August 20) where teams compete against other associations locally in the District 2 / District 6 Interlock League as well as in tournaments. Roster selection for these teams occurs at tryouts held prior to the beginning of the season. Registration is conducted following a competitive try-out process.

Players must participate in a minimum number of Spring games in order to be considered eligible for Summer play.

New for Summer 2017 – the collective leagues of Districts 2 and 6, of which OLLB is a part, have added an additional tier to the Summer season as follows:

Tier
Description
All-Star
Top 12-13 players, as selected by the All-Star Manager, in a division. Team competes to advance in Little League World Series tournament (Districts, Provincials, Canadians, LLWS). Team plays 12 Interlock League games and registers in invitational tournaments at “A” level.
Canadian
Next 12-13 players, as selected by the Canadian Manager, in a division. Team plays 12 Interlock League games and registers in invitational tournaments at “B” level.
National
Remaining players distributed evenly across an appropriate number of teams within OLLB. Team plays 12 Interlock League games.

For 2017, Orleans Little League Baseball will be expanding the Canadian Little League Travel Ball Program (TBP) that was trialed at the Major level in 2016. Minor and Junior levels have now been added to the TBP.

Challenger Baseball

Orleans Little League is proud to provide Challenger Baseball.

Challenger Baseball is a program that provides an opportunity for children with cognitive or physical disabilities to enjoy the full benefits of participation in baseball at a level structured to their abilities.

Baseball games are played in a fun, safe environment where no score is kept. Able-bodied “Buddies” are assigned (one on one, where possible) to each participant. These Buddies assist the Challenger players with their involvement in the game. Pushing wheelchairs around the base path, assisting players in how to hold the bat and swing, or providing protection for the Challenger player from a batted ball, are just a few of the ways the Buddies offer a better experience for the participants in Challenger Baseball.
